As of today, Firefly has 4 tools ready to use, Text to image, Generative fill, Text effects, and Generative recolor, with 3D to image, and Extend image to come. I’ve shared my thoughts on Text to image and Generative Fill and will continue this series with the other tools in future posts.
Today, Text effects. Timely, as my brother just asked me about logo design software this weekend. I recommended something different for his needs but used his idea (thanks, little bro!) as inspiration to try out different text effects in Firefly.
First off, I tried a generic name with “strong primary colors” as the GenAI text query. You can adjust the fit, with tight staying within the letter and medium and loose allowing the design to extend past the letter boundaries. In addition to the sample prompts at the top, you can also change the font, background, and text colors. Most customization remains in the text query field, so I added “spiky” to get a more dynamic type treatment.
Moving closer to the industrial-but-close-to-nature vibes he’s going for, I queried “steel sunlight,” adding a light grey background to soften the letters a bit. Not bad for a 5-minute business card.
Since the name was a little basic, I replaced it with a naming suggestion for the business. Now I can share this inspiration with him to work directly with a designer to create a series of products (and let’s admit it, something much more subtle!) from business cards to website to social. I’m hoping it will help him get the conversation started and can improve the relationship between the client and the designer.
Coming back to DAM, how can this tool enhance our experience? Like other GenAI tools, I look to this for brainstorming and conversation-starting at this point. Maybe you want to use Text effects to create a series of letters to arrange a glossary, titles for a newsletter, or name your office conference rooms by Greek goddess.
As this tool is intetragrated into other design tools (as Adobe has done with Pohotshop and Illustrator powered by other Firefly tools), Text effects could become part of the design process and its output included in other logo, icon and image assets we add to DAMs.
