Happy Valentine’s Day! Forget that mushy stuff, it’s time to show your DAM some love. If your DAM had a love language, it would be Acts of Service. The consistent effort of keeping your DAM current and organized can improve the relationship much more than just talking about it (looking at you, Words of Affirmation) or thinking only Receiving Gifts - aka buying a new solution - will fix it.
What does Acts of Service mean when we are talking about your digital asset management platform and not, say, your partner?
Take some time to set up a monthly asset review calendar event
Communicate with other power users to ask them to review their areas regularly
Run reports to check for areas that need attention like expiring images
Collaborate with IT or your external provider to do system health checks
Partner with contributing teams to learn which areas to expect new assets, a mini content audit if you will
Review DAM structure & tag library
Host monthly training for new users
Are there more ways you show your DAM some love?
What if it’s time to find a new DAM? Like personal relationships, regular maintenance goes a long way but you might find the one you have with your DAM is unhealthy. These Acts of Service only apply to healthy, ongoing relationships - you might find you have to dump your DAM for a new system or you’ve outgrown what this DAM can offer. You’ll have more evidence to share with your team if you do complete reviews and know what you’re looking for in a new partner. Best of luck! Maybe I should write a post on how to turn luck into reality for St. Patrick’s Day…
