Last week I headed to the Javits Center for the NAB Show New York 2023. The show is produced annually by the National Association of Broadcasters and I snagged a free exhibits pass this year. My friend and retouching pro met me there and we checked out the booths helmed by major broadcast networks, film and TV studios, and production and post-production house and other exhibitors for products as diverse as lighting, fog machines and media platforms (my favorite) across a huge expanse of the space. Between booths, there were areas for demos, awards and talks, and we stopped to take in some including the HBO CAS Seminar - love a moiré pattern discussion - at the Cine+Live Lab.
Some trends we noticed this year:
streaming is still king
AR/VR/XR for a more natural effect, like extending the background in an interview, vs special effects audiences would notice
MAM for video concerned with data protection as well as storage
audience metrics
content production and flow
last but not least, you guessed it, AI!
Anything we missed?
