GenAI for DAM: Google Bard
Another week, another GenAI tool. This time I’m looking at Google Bard, their take on text-based generative artificial intelligence chat-based AI. I asked it about DAM and their responses, while not wildly different from ChatGPT, were well-sourced and complete.
What is digital asset management?
Digital asset management (DAM) is the process of storing, organizing, retrieving, and distributing digital assets. Digital assets can include images, videos, documents, presentations, and other files.
DAM systems typically provide a number of features, including:
Storage: DAM systems provide a centralized location for storing digital assets. This makes it easier to find and access assets, and it also helps to protect assets from being lost or damaged.
Organization: DAM systems allow you to organize your digital assets in a way that makes sense for your organization. This could include organizing assets by type, by project, or by client.
Retrieval: DAM systems make it easy to retrieve digital assets. You can search for assets by name, by keyword, or by other criteria.
Distribution: DAM systems allow you to distribute digital assets to others. This could include sharing assets with colleagues, with clients, or with the public.
DAM systems can be a valuable tool for organizations of all sizes. They can help you to:
Improve the efficiency of your asset management processes
Reduce the risk of losing or damaging assets
Improve the security of your assets
Make it easier to find and use assets
Improve collaboration between team members
Increase the visibility and use of your assets
If you are looking for a way to improve your organization's asset management, then a DAM system is a good option to consider.
Here are some of the benefits of using a DAM system:
Increased efficiency: DAM systems can help you to improve the efficiency of your asset management processes by providing a centralized location for storing, organizing, and retrieving assets. This can save you time and money by reducing the need to search for assets across multiple locations.
Improved security: DAM systems can help you to improve the security of your assets by providing features such as password protection, access control, and version control. This can help to protect your assets from unauthorized access, tampering, and deletion.
Increased collaboration: DAM systems can help you to improve collaboration between team members by providing a central repository for assets and by allowing team members to share and collaborate on assets. This can help to improve the efficiency of your workflow and to ensure that everyone is working with the latest versions of assets.
Increased visibility: DAM systems can help you to increase the visibility of your assets by providing features such as search, tagging, and analytics. This can help you to track the usage of your assets and to identify assets that are not being used.
If you are considering implementing a DAM system, there are a few things you should keep in mind:
Size and complexity of your organization: The size and complexity of your organization will affect the size and complexity of the DAM system you need.
Types of assets you need to manage: The types of assets you need to manage will affect the features you need in a DAM system.
Budget: The cost of a DAM system will vary depending on the size and complexity of the system and the features you need.
Once you have considered these factors, you can start to evaluate DAM systems. There are a number of DAM systems available on the market, so you should be able to find one that meets your needs and budget.
How can we improve digital asset management?
There are many ways to improve digital asset management (DAM). Here are a few tips:
Define your business goals. What do you hope to achieve with DAM? Once you know your goals, you can choose the right DAM solution and implement it in a way that supports your objectives.
Involve stakeholders. DAM affects everyone in the organization, so it's important to get buy-in from all stakeholders. This will help ensure that the DAM solution is used effectively and that everyone is on the same page.
Choose the right DAM solution. There are many different DAM solutions on the market, so it's important to choose one that meets your specific needs. Consider factors such as the size of your organization, the types of assets you need to manage, and your budget.
Implement the DAM solution correctly. Once you've chosen a DAM solution, it's important to implement it correctly. This includes setting up the system, migrating your assets, and training your users.
Use the DAM solution effectively. Once the DAM solution is in place, it's important to use it effectively. This means tagging your assets, creating metadata, and organizing your assets in a way that makes sense for your organization.
Monitor and evaluate your DAM solution. It's important to monitor and evaluate your DAM solution on a regular basis. This will help you identify areas where the system can be improved and make sure that it's meeting your needs.
Here are some additional tips for improving DAM:
Use a DAM-friendly naming convention. This will make it easier to find and manage your assets.
Use metadata to describe your assets. This will help you find and filter your assets more easily.
Create workflows for managing your assets. This will help you ensure that your assets are processed and approved in a timely manner.
Back up your DAM system regularly. This will help protect your assets in case of a disaster.
By following these tips, you can improve your DAM and get the most out of your digital assets.

Early thoughts?
What I like is the ability to tie in your queries to your Google account, so you can return to past queries and get updated responses later (as new DAM workflows are created or industry players launch) or pause or history to get fresh results. I will continue to keep my queries free of client info or personal info for now but can see how Google Bard can pair with Google Search and other tools to help craft marketing copy or brainstorm solutions, as well as source partners.
