After 3 years apart, we met in New York City to discuss digital asset management together at Henry Stewart New York DAM 2022. Friends from around the world came to learn, share and laugh over the challenges and successes we’ve had in a much more digital world than when we last had an IRL DAMNY.
On Day 1, I arrived in time to grab a coffee and a rare seat for David Lipsey’s opening talk. Felt good to have our little community assembled. We continued together through Mark Elias of Feld Entertainment (Circus fun!) and Theresa Regli (always a great presentation) then Jessica Criscione and Molly Reinganum of IBM who earned the distinction of “First talk with Metadata in the Title” with their inspiring take on content workflows.
After a coffee break that reunited me with my old boss Charlie Bory, teammate Emily Hughes and delicious treats, we split into Tracks. I chose Track 2 with Jarrod Gingras of Real Story Group on DAM journey (DAM 2.0 over here) as well as Nadine Cotter from CWB Financial Group (stealing her idea to use the brand portal for onboarding new DAM users and other marketing team members) then Amy Wiesen, HomeServe USA and Gil Comeaux, Tyson Foods before lunch.
Over to Track 1 for some tough questions for Theresa Regli’s panelists: Thomas Bristol, censhare; Chad Malley, Hyland | Nuxeo; Christopher Morgan-Wilson, Orange Logic; and Matt Zeiler, Clarifai. Then popped over to Track 2 for Mindy Carner from Amazon’s talk on targeted integrations before another coffee break (this time with brownies) and the final session on governance moderated by John Horodyski, Salt Flats with panelists Jennifer Dawson, St Jude’s; Gregg Guest, FADEL; Elise Hahn, Adobe; and Kyle McNamara, The Hershey Company. Great talk that led into a fun drinks reception.
Themes: community; DAM 1.0, 2.0 etc. to describe creation, integration and automation/AI; governance; metadata; integrations; onboarding; workflows
Day 2 started a bit later for me, but made it in time for the Track 1 content operations session with Jarrod Gingras moderating a panel who included Sébastien Bardoz, Wedia; Liana Cave, Hilton; Douglas Hegley, The Met; and Corrie Sahli, Sitecore speaking as if they somehow had been hiding out on my team Zooms all year.
After lunch (and creampuffs), I joined Track 2 (aka the multimedia track) for sessions on MAM from Christine Cadotte and Rebecca Efrat from CBC on change management, Jamie Wilson, Showtime, on MAM installs and finally Annie Erdmann from Mayo Clinic on video workflows. Since this is what’s next on my team, very interested in hearing from those in the trenches.
A last coffee break before a fan favorite - Stump the DAM Consultant. John Florance, Risetime Technologies; Jennifer Pflaumer, Paroo Digital; and Thomas Stilling, Forrester Research took on the stumpers and prevailed (sometimes…) over some all-too-relatable questions and gave out some excellent prizes. Finally, chair David Lipsey closed out the conference with a lovely farewell, knowing we’re closer to back-to-normal but proud that our skills have helped buoy and sustain our industries through a difficult time.
Themes: content operations; DEI (sadly missed their session but hoping panelists Carol Thomas-Knipes, Citi; Dr Reem El Asaleh, Toronto Metropolitan University; Kara Van Malssen, AVP; Martin Roberts, Mobius Labs; or moderator John Horodyski can share); MAM; video; multimedia; change management; people/process/technology.
So happy to have made it (and out, Covid-free!) to DAMNY and catch up with old friends, new friends and internet friends and share work & life stories from the past 3 years apart. Bravo to the Henry Stewart team - especially Milly Louch and Dan Luper for recreating a space for our community to gather! If I didn’t have a chance to chat during breaks, feel free to set up a coffee or virtual call soon.
I can’t believe I missed the cream puffs!!! Hope to meet you in person next time!!
